Maggie Wright

Maggie Wright has been teaching and riding for over 25 years. She grew up in Florida riding and showing hunters, but was also involved in Pony Club and got her start in eventing.

Moving to Lexington, Ky in 1979, she went to the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1983. During that time she worked on horse farms, taught lessons, worked sales, competed in combined training, and rode on the U.K. Intercollegiate team. Having decided to stay in Kentucky, she ended up managing several farms before purchasing and developing Champagne Run.

From organizing and implementing the summer camps, to all the dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Eventing, clinics, and parties-she has (with great help!) stayed pretty busy at Champagne Run. During this time she has brought many students up through the levels, and at present time continues to coach the Beginner Novice Level eventer up through Two Star** Intermediate Level. She also coaches students showing in local hunter and jumper shows as well as training young horses.

Maggie has also developed the Champagne Run at the Park Horse Trials into one of the largest (# of competitors) in the United States with riders from 37 states and Canada competing, as well as most of our Olympic and International riders. She organizes several other large and small sized horse trials at the Kentucky Horse Park, Masterson Station Park and Champagne Run, and does all the stadium course design and collaborates on the cross-country course design. Being a member of the Iroquois Hunt Club also allows her to enjoy riding outside of competing in the “off” season when not on the road going to a show!
