Kelly Masters

Kelly Masters was born in Lexington and has been riding since she was 5, competing in her first horse show at age 6.  She has been riding with Maggie since the creation of Champagne Run in 1990.  In 1992, Kelly got her first pony, Eiderdown, and started showing more often in local Hunter/Jumper shows.  It quickly became apparent that Eiderdown was a better event horse, so Kelly started Eventing and quickly grew to love the sport.

In 1994, Kelly outgrew her pony and got her first horse, Royal Sapphire.  Since then, she has competed numerous horses of her own as well as Champagne Run client and sale horses.  Her competitions include local Hunter/Jumper shows, Eventing through Preliminary level, Combined Tests through Intermediate level, and Dressage through 4th Level.  She currently is showing another chestnut, a Thoroughbred mare named Riverrox, that she broke herself as a 3 year old. In 2014, they won Champagne Run at the Park at the Preliminary level and finished the season with a 3rd place finish at Team Challenge competing in the Long Format 3-Day at Preliminary. Roxy also finished her first partial season at Preliminary as the 6th place Area 8 horse for the year.  Along with showing, Kelly also enjoys working at the numerous shows Champagne Run organizes each year and coaching students at shows.

Kelly’s teaching career started in 1999 when she managed Champagne Run’s summer riding camp.  Since then, she has taught lessons to riders of all ages ranging from beginners to serious competitors.  In 2004, Kelly graduated from Transylvania University with an accounting degree and also worked for USEF as a Measurement Specialist while teaching a few lessons at the farm.  The same year, she married David, who works at the farm’s shows.  Quickly, Kelly missed working at the farm and in the summer of 2005 came to work at Champagne Run full time.  She currently teaches lessons, rides sale horses and horses in training, and does the bookkeeping.
